Barking is a natural behavior for all dogs, and even a breed that is typically renowned for being quieter may bark more than one would anticipate.  

According to Caroline Coile, PhD, an authority on dog breeds and the author of Barron's Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds, 

This is true even with breeds of dogs that are known for their low levels of barking.
